In 2005/2006 the label TDK made its first U.S. releases of a series of recordings, which were initially only available in Europe - thus making live recordings of the Dave Holland Quintet, Billy Cobham's Glass Menagerie, Gil Evans and His Orchestra, the Modern Jazz Quartet’s 35th and 40th Anniversary Concerts, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, the Trio Rypdal, Gurtu, Vituous, The Band from Utopia, World of Rhythm and ESP2 available to the motherland of Jazz.

With the series “Jazz Icons”, released in 2006, TDK roused the interest of Jazz lovers worldwide. The 9 DVD series features full-length concerts and studio performances by the jazz legends, Thelonious Monk, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones, Count Basie, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Buddy Rich or Chet Baker. This material was all filmed in Europe between 1957 and 1978, none of the concerts had ever been released for home viewing before and, in some cases, the material was never even broadcast.
